I use Marr Haven's sport weight yarn for all my knitting. This is a light weight yarn that is still warm and close to windproof. An allover fairisle pattern will result in even more warmth because of the floats on the inside which add thickness and lots of air pockets.
Marr Haven yarn is spun by the same family that raises the sheep using a ninteenth century technique called mule spinning. The sport weight yarn I use comes in three colors which have no dye: natural, light grey, and medium grey. The five other colors are beautiful heathers: blue, green, lilac, burgundy, and light heather.
Visit Marr Haven's site for interesting information about the processing and spinning of this yarn.
